Game one goes to Tortorella.  Dont know what he said to his players during the time out but whatever it was, it was 3-0 pretty quick.

Not to mention our anemic power play.

Those were the main differences in the game.

But its only one game.  They'll do better tomorrow!   :woohoo

Well, hopefully tomorrow night the Sens are thinking "We have to play like they did" and actually HIT everything that moves wearing a Rangers jersey.  They didn't use the body half as much as I expected them to; far too many half-hearted attempts and slow checks.

Had to watch the game on time delay since we had a previous engagement to attend (dinner for our youngest's 21st birthday with his godparents)  but we were sure to pick a spot that there was no chance whatsoever there would be a television around to spoil our anticipation of watching the game during dinner!

The game went about how expected.....until Torts called that time-out in the second and then the roof caved in on the Sens who were taking it to the Rangers with the score 1-0 when he called his team together for a huddle.  Not sure what Torts said to his team but it sure was effective!  What I found frustrating was, up to that point of the game, Lundqvist had been letting out some really juicy rebounds which, unfortunately,  his team-mates were able to get to first and get out of harm's way.   :icon_banghead:

But what I did like from the Sens was that they ultimately kept going, scoring two goals in the third to narrow the gap....rather than just rolling over and dying in front of a rambunctious crowd in MSG.  Of course, it wasn't enough...but it was better, IMHO, than being shut out on the night.

Of course I was disappointed with the giveaways (particularly those that led to Rangers' goals) and yes I didn't like every moment of the game, but I am still sitting firmly on the bandwagon and along with the butterflies in my stomach I am eagerly awaiting game 2 tomorrow night!   :woohoo

And not for a moment am I blaming the refs in any way for the overall outcome of game 1, but could someone tell me exactly why Karlsson got the same two minutes for getting several shots to the face (with the gloves still on) by Brian Boyle?  Seriously.  What the h*ll was that? The Rangers were effective in shutting Karlsson down for the most part.  But having him taken off the ice for, basically, being a punching bag was a bit much for this fan.   :icon_angry2:

Let's put this game behind us and get on  with game 2 tomorrow night!!  GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!

Ya, that also had me scratching my head.  Wasn't there a time in the past where punching someone with the gloves on was considered "Intent to injure" and resulted in 5 and a game?

I *think* that if you're in a fight and don't drop both your gloves you can be in trouble.

I remember the uproar when Brashear fought Rob Ray and gave 2 or 3 punches with his gloves on before dropping them. Had Ray bleeding quite a bit.

Punching somebody with padded gloves is more dangerous than with bare Knuckles?  Really?

Wow, you had to add the "Really?" to that did ya?

Punching someone with a soft glove on is one thing but I don't think you have to be a genius to know hockey gloves are anything but.  They aren't very nice to the skin when you are being roughed up with one.  And he wasn't just face-washing Karlsson, he was jabbing at him pretty well.

Also, I just asked if it was ever an "intent to injure" penalty in the past.

Yup, no bandwagon here.  Will always be a Sens fan regardless of how much they suck sometimes.  Might not be happy about it if they are playing terrible but it's not gonna turn me into a Leafer or anything...hehe.

I'm just glad the Pens/Flyers games have been on alternate nights, been a really exciting series to watch so far despite the Pens losing both games. :(

I hate the flyers... But the Pens have 0 defense......

I'm pumped for tomorrows game though. Hopefully the Sens can carry the momentum from the last period.....

Holy crap.  I was happy to see Carkner in because he likes to throw the body, something the Sens didn't do the first game.  However, I did not expect to see him toon up Boyle while he was turtled on the ice.  Getting Dubinsky off was a bonus but still, I wanted Carkner to PLAY the game.

You didn't even mention the 5 minute major. The game coulda been over right there. Considering the Sens haven't scored a meaningful goal on Lundqvist. There has to be a better way to send a message.

Meanwhile, I find Bob Cole irrationally annoying to listen to.

Spoke too soon, although it took a freak bounce off Del Zotto's skate to get one by him. Nice hustle by Karlsson though. Good to be lucky.

I am really impressed by that win. Not that I have grand expectations about what the Sens will do this year, or that they'll even get by the Rags, but the way they won that playoff game is something I haven't seen from them... well, since the lockout. Maybe ever. They grinded that one out, that's for sure.

And Chris Neil, what can you say? He may be the most all-around useful bottom 6 guy in the league. The epitome of a heart and soul player. He deserves recognition.

Was thinking the same thing.  If we showed that grit, gravel and guile against the Leafs back in the day, they wouldn't be taking over our building nowadays, that's for sure.

I can't wait to hear how Torts complains about this one.....
