How about benching Spezza? This is beyond ridiculous. He's dragging the team down right now. The other 3 lines are forechecking hard and getting great chances, but when he gets the puck, it's bad passes after dumb plays, giving the puck over.

I'm getting a disturbing sense of deja vu......hot goalie, our "top players" trying to do too much and accomplishing little, inability to score, getting bedevliled by some 3rd line plugger, opposition wears blue....

...I feel like I've seen this movie a couple of times before.

The media is all over the sens today saying "What an effort, awesome game, nothing to be frustrated about"... Really?

Sure they had some chances, but without Anderson it could have been 5-1 NY.   I keep trying to find ways to be supportive of Spezza, but after this playoff, he's just a bonehead turn over machine. He was starting to pick things up in the reg season, but as soon as the intensity of the playoffs came to fruit he has gone back to playing pond hockey.

Sens are now tied for the worst home playoff losing streak in NHL history....  :ccclapping:

The media, with no independent thoughts of their own, are likely just following MacLean's lead with their post game comments.  There is absolutely no panic in his voice or his comments and he felt like it could have easily gone our way last night and he was happy with the way the team played.

No expectations - no disappointments for this Sens fan.

Just happy to be back to the dance!

Way to focus on the negatives.

Without Lundqvist it very well could have been 5-1 Sens.  They played an awesome game with the exception of Spezzaway showing up in fine form.

Funny, I thought the first game was crap where everyone else liked the effort.
Last night I felt the effort was actually there... Sure not from Spezza, but the role playing guys really stepped up in my eyes.
Like I said in the other thread, guys like Foligno and Smith have left me very impressed.
Butler and O'Brien had a few damned good shifts last night too.

Its the big guns that aren't getting it done...

I haven't noticed Michalek much.
Turris tries, but seems to get shut down easily.

Anderson has been playing well, last nights goal was a lucky chip. Boyle just seems to be in the right spots.

Is it just me or does Karlsson seem intimidated out there...

Yep, the hot goalie....
As far as their home playoff record, thats a fact... not trying to be negative.

And a significant chunk of those home losses came at a time when our regular playoff opponents spent 20-30+ million on player salaries than we did.

On another note, we haven't won a home playoff game since the Spartan incident.

That's it... we need a new promotion....maybe a giant Toga party with lots of women attending from the free tickets being passed around to entice them.  :woohoo

I don't think the salary money had as much to do with the sens lack of performance in the post season since the spartan incident.  Look at the pens series. They played like crap. Spezza was on a roll during that series too. They beat themselves.

Just frustrated that the big guns on this team have checked out for the year, again.
Luongo sucks.

Oh dear, absolutely thrilled by the victory. But I think I used up a life wish. I hope I'm never stranded at sea or anything. After those first few minutes of domination by the Rangers I saw the break up the ice and... well it went in. Improbable as it was. A great snapshot by Turris.

Outside of a few choice breakdowns I think the Sens have carried the majority of the play the last 3 games. That has to worry Rangers brass. The Sens seem to have little trouble winning faceoffs, or gaining the zone, or winning puck battles in the offensive end. They just can't seem to get 2nd chances on Lundqvist.

I'm hoarse today and my arm is sore from all the towel-waving but it was worth absolutely every minute!!  What a great atmosphere in SBP last night!  First time that I have ever seen the fans cheer and make tons of noise during every tv timeout.  I could barely hear the music whenever the Sens scored and forget about hearing who actually scored or assisted.  It was GREAT!!  :woohoo

I am not going to get into the calls by the refs...either way.....but suffice to say that they got plenty of "negative noise" throughout the night.  Certainly deserved, IMHO, on calls for either team (although I have to say that the jeers were cheers when a Ranger was sent to the box). :duh

Great atmosphere outside the building before the game and inside the building throughout including much cheering on the walk out of the building along with plenty of honking horns during the walk to our car!  Yep....the Army were happy campers last night!   :happy dance:

On the downside to last night, I certainly hope that Jesse Winchester won't be out too long with his 'upper body injury'.  Can't say that I saw any specific hit that put him out but he has been solid since his return from his concussion and I will miss him on the PK.

Both goalies had excellent games....with Anderson being "more excellent" in the end!   ;)   There were several chants of "AN-DY! AN-DY! AN-DY!" throughout the night!  The crowd was loving what he was doing out there!

I loved that Konopka was sent over the boards to the penalty box when Foligno was sent there late in the game.  I heard today that MacLean knew that Zenon was the one to settle him down and it clearly worked.  Konopka is not a terrifically gifted player overall, but besides having a 73% faceoff-win average on last night's game, he apparently has a very positive effect on his team-mates when he speaks.  Have heard this over and over during his career since the juniors.  It's one of those intangibles that is so important to teamwork.

And that word - teamwork - is key to what I have seen all year long with these "rebuilding" Senators.  They work as a team, first and foremost.  Murray is not rebuilding around any one or two players....he is moulding a TEAM.  They come to each other's defence when needed;  they pick up the slack when needed; and you can almost feel how much they like each other when they score a goal!  Sure, all teams celebrate goals, but these guys seem so genuine in pre- and postgame interviews and during games.  And their "no quit" attitude - that has been going on all season - is what makes it seem so different than past years.  They keep getting knocked down (a questionable call, a misplayed puck that results in an opponents goal, their captain leaving the ice and not returning...for two games, etc.) but they DON'T GIVE UP!!!  They lose as a team but, more importantly, they keep it going so that they can really savour those TEAM WINS!   :ccclapping:

Can't wait until Saturday!!!

Konopka was also the player that coined the mantra ' the family' in reference to the team.  Play as a family -work together as a family -  do it for the family, etc.

Seems to be working

I'll say it before and I'll say it again - there's a reason Briank Kilrea had Konopka as his captain.
