Spezza getting benched for large parts of the third. Well deserved.

Once again, the Sens' stars for the most part were invisible.

I was at the game. Awesome crowd, unfortunately they got too caught up chanting "ref you suck", and not "go Sens go"....
Loved the Neil fight, but again, unfortunately that was the turning point for the Rangers. Sens died off after that and the Rangers organized.
Reffing was questionable. It really killed the enjoyment of being there in the second period. From bad calls to redoing face offs. It really wasn't fun to watch.
I personally don't think that games are predetermined, but when reffing is that bad you really get that WWE vibe. They got too involved last night, which is a shame.
Of course the Sens didn't help themselves at all either. Terrible passing and almost no hustle for the majority of the game. I'm not gonna mention lack of shooting, but what the hell.
People are saying Spezza had no lanes to shoot as they were all clogged. All I say to that is Paulrus clearly disagreed, since Spezza was benched for the majority of the third. When asked if Spezza was injured in the third or if Maclean was sending him a message by not playing him, Maclean simply said "he's not injured", and left it at that.
Silfverberg showed some speed, but he's too small and was pushed off the puck quite easily. Unfair to him to throw him in there. I would have preferred butler or stone.
I'm curious to know what the, trip on Neil in front of the rangers net, late hit on Karlsson (which sent him flying into the boards), cross check to Alfies back in front of the bench, and wild stick swing at Neil looked like on Tv.

Yep. They appear to play better without Alfie. He actually had a meltdown last night. He's been here before many times in playoffs...  Refs were terrible too last night. No consistency, make up calls, and eventually it cost us a goal.

Spezza is never going to up his game, and I hope they can move him for some value next year.
Overall Ottawa didn't play too bad, especially in the first. But as the game went on, the Sens started to lose the momentum. I would have frozen the lineup after Saturday's win (with the exception of Alfie). They are trying to tinker too much with this Silfverberg (Sp) guy etc.

My theory why Alfie had a meltdown is the fact that he knows that it is all made up and is obviously fed up.
I am starting to think maybe its the mafia that controls everything.
They don't want any Canadian Teams in the playoffs, its all about the US and that's that.
I mean It’s truly pathetic. Two Canadian teams finished in the bottom five, out of 30, three years in a row. The worst indignity – the Montreal Canadiens ended this season in third-last place.
No Canadian-based team has won the Stanley Cup since Montreal won in 1993.
Hmmmm....... could it be??

I dont like the tinkering with the lineup either.  McLean says yes they want to win, but this is a rebuilding year and he wants to see how the young guys work out?   Huh?  Seems counterproductive to me  :smily1263:   Seems to me if you want to win you go with your best, not your unknown.  Hell with that philosophy we should see Bishop Thursday night.  I dont buy it.

I had it in the back of my mind that adding Alfie to the lineup wasnt going to be the be all and end all that people wanted.  And after watching his little hissy fit on the bench I have to wonder if he isnt still bothered by concussion symptoms.  That reaction, although possibly understandable, wasn't the Alfie we know.  If he sits Thursday I wouldnt be totally shocked.

I didn't think Alfie would be a huge game breaker, but if anything, I thought he would sponge up one of NY's best defensive players etc. However they covered him like a 3rd liner.

Im all for trying new players and finding your strengths and weaknesses. However game 6, at home, with a chance to ice the division champs is not time to do this!  You keep your foot on the gas, hold to what works and play your ass off.

Luongo sucks.

He's not happy. So many years of the team choking or coming up short in the post season... I don't blame him.

He looked like an idiot acting like that.  He can be so classy and composed but man, he has some crazy assed meltdowns every few years or so.   :laugh2:

He would look more like an idiot if he just shrugged his shoulders and retired. He's frustrated that they had a chance to ice to division champs and let it slip away. He's human. If that takes away from his overall persona as a calm and decisive leader, then it just shows how lame the Ottawa media is.

After years of the media hinting and saying he should play with more emotion, he finally does... and now its over the top and too much. Listening to the team clarified this, they had to fend off a lot of bs coming in. Ahh good ol Team 1200 TGOR, where they talk headshots all show, everyday... :laugh2: That show has gone downhill the last 6 months really bad. Same crap every day.

This JUST in!!  Alfie is human.   ;)

I had no problem watching his 'meltdown' early in the third of the game 6 at SBP.  After hearing his comments - and the exclamations of pundits, fans, etc. - I figure he was most regretting the fact that his two oldest sons were in the building to see it (as they were the two young skaters that prefaced the team's appearance on the ice at the start of the game.....so cute!).

Heck!  Lundqvist smashed his stick over the net after Ottawa's second goal late in the game and he was the freaking winning goaltender.  Not to mention his idiotic comments that the "fix must be in" to have the Sens advance!?!?  REALLY???  A market of under a million versus a market of 14 million would have the fix in for them??  Now, THAT'S a head-scratcher!   :icon_questionable:

And although I never saw it, only heard about it, at the final buzzer Karlsson pitched his stick at the end boards.  Temper, temper.

Sounds like the 'significant' Swedes in this series are starting to lose their grip!! Which, culturally, seems to go against their inherent grain.

IMHO, I think Alfie was hoping to win this series at home.  Especially with his sons skating.  There is probably no chance the Sens would win the next round, and to close out this one at home would be a cap to this season for him.

Now that I am older, I thought it was great that I seemed to have more patience.  Turns out I just don't give a damn.

Why would the Sens have no chance next round?
Washington, Florida would be good opponents.... Not Philly.

At the morning skate Konopka, Carkner and Spezza are not on the ice.  With that said it was noted it's an optional skate.

Sens can't get WSH.  If FLA wins, that's who OTT would play.  If NJ wins, we would get PHI.

Optional skates, yes. Many optional skates have 4 or 5 players showing up. But this was the morning skate of a game 7. I doubt it was optional.
