First Round Around the League

I am assuming that most of us are watching the other first round series.  Just a few comments to get this thread going:

Have to say, I am happy that the LA Kings have started out so strong in the 'other' 1st versus 8th series.  While I think Luongo has played well, the rest of the Canucks have not played up to par IMHO and are certainly missing their "other" Sedin.  They've really put themselves in tough losing their first two games at home and it will be interesting to see if Schneider gets the call to start in nets in game 3.   :smily677:

That is a very low scoring series so far for Boston and the Caps and considering that the Capitals have a third-string, nobody-knows goalie in nets, kudos to that kid, Holtby, for a stellar couple of games so far.  Personally thrilled that Chris Kelly got the only goal in the double OT 1-0 in game 1.  He also got an assist in yesterday's game that Capitals won in double OT.  If these two teams keep this kind of pace up, it could be an extremely long series.

I am not a fan of either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia so, frankly, I don't care who wins it but only that the teams wear themselves out for whoever the winner has to play next.  I'm sure the Pens and their fans are a bit shellshocked with Philly pulling off both wins in the opening two games.  Especially game 1 where the Pens held a 3-0 lead at the end of one period.  It will be INSANITY today in Philadelphia...their fans will be going NUTS, likely even through the pregame warm-up! 

The Phoenix-Chicago series is a fun one to watch!  Smith in goal for Phoenix has impressed me lots (and the Chicago player who hit him behind his net last night has a hearing today as well with the NHL).  It's a hard-hitting series, end to end and I've enjoyed the first two games!

I haven't watched too much of the other series but it sure does seem like a good bunch of series going on in this first round!

Philly is taking the series big time.  They won again tonight 8-4 to take a 3-0 lead in the series.  I don't see Pittsburgh coming back to win it but you never know I guess.

Oh its been pure pleasure watching the Penguins self destruct.  I love how the Flyers play.  They are never ever out of a game.  I've watched all of that series.  Its incredibly entertaining.

I have seen bits and pieces of the others.  Lots of intensity in all of them.

Love the first round!

The Canucks are now down 3-0 after they lost tonight, again, to LA!!  Schneider was in nets for Vancouver tonight but that didn't save the 'Nucks' bacon tonight!

Right now nothing could make me happier than seeing the Canucks get swept by the Kings.  Would certainly shut those idiotic Canucks fans up pretty quick.

The Diving by the Canucks is out of hand..
They're embarrassing to watch. Im also rooting for the Kings.
I'd like the Kings and Preds to be in the Final.
Example A:







The only east series Im watching is Pennsylvania and the Sens series.
The Penguins are scoring enough to win but the D and goaltending is horrid.
Malkin has disappeared this round, and The entire Philly team (- Bryzgalov) is stepping up.

Oh ya, Canucks fans will never admit it but this is a BIG reason they are the most hated team in the league.  They won the President's Trophy thanks in large part to their very easy division opponents and they are also carrying on their diving/whining/dirty antics from last playoffs.  Kesler and Burrows should be up for an oscar again this year.

Nice ones.  You could prob put together a lengthy montage of all the Canuck dives led by Kesler and Burrows.  Sure every team does it but the Canucks take to a whole different level.

Well, Tuesday night I guess I can take a night off from hockey.  Three games and none that I really care about.  Got to say, there are some great series in these playoffs so far.  :)

  Cant say I care one way or the other about Torres - he's a non-factor in my world, but I do know he has a history.  Sounds like he's paying for it

But - message sent!

Too bad they didn't send the message with the Weber hit to begin with - maybe they could have avoided the craziness thats happened since.

p.s.  Flyers/Pittsburgh game was awesome last night.  Good hard hitting relatively clean game.  Maybe now the playoffs can settle down and we can just enjoy hockey.

That Holtby kid has been amazing for Washington!!  Not that I care one way or another about the series (too caught up in the Sens/Rangers to waste the grey matter) but he's been outstanding.  And, in contrast, Thomas seems a bit frazzled. 

St. Louis advances tonight beating San Jose to take the series 3-1 with Elliott in nets.  Wonder what will happen in San Jose now?  Big changes?  Perhaps Doug Wilson let go?  Hmm.... :icon_athought:

Vancouver out in five games.   :spin:   I'm guessing the Vancouver police were on FULL ALERT last night!! :icon_hiding2:

Pittsburgh out in six games.  I wasn't 'cheering' on either the Penguins or the Flyers....just hoped that it would go seven games and that they pounded the crap out of each other.  I'm fine with six games.  Kind of a surprising outcome for me....and 56 goals scored throughout the series!!!!  Not exactly a goaltenders' duel. :fear:

That Phoenix/Chicago series is certainly entertaining.  Every single game so far determined in OT.  Looks like Toews is rounding into his usual form as the series goes on.   :nod:
