Spezza dissapearing act.
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:47:37 AM »
I'm not usually one to bash a particular player but My god where is Jason Spezza out there?   He and Michalek are almost invisible..and when I do notice Spezza, it's because he's being gently pushed off the puck or turning the thing over.   We can't win this series when our best players are doing nothing but taking penalties and passing up on glorious shooting opportunities from hash marks to make a pretty pass into a crowd infront of the net.

Our power play was absolutely useless. Alfie out, Spezza in the penalty box for most of them, and Karlsson on the bench in favor of Chris (two goals this season) Phillips.   Something is wrong when your PP unit is Phillips, Kuba, Konopka, Neil and Turris!!

Feel bad for Anderson, played his butt off last night and got zero run support.   Lundqvist is great sure, but he's human and we have to stop making him look good and making his life so easy by shooting EVERYTHING low where he covers the whole bottom of the net.   Shooters, take some V!agra and get it up for god's sake!!

Spezza, grow a sack FFS.

And just yesterday, Don "the hack" Brennan had an article pushing for Spezza to get the C since Alfie is out. Calling the move "inevitable" down the road, so might as well start doing it now. But playoffs like these and against Pittsburgh 2 years ago (who can forget Spezza's pass to Crosby) are the reason why I hope the C never gets near him. No heart.

"no heart"

Smith and Foligno on the other hand have been great to watch.

Spezza is what he is.. And contrary to belief, I dont think hes ever changed. Theres really no middle ground, Hes spectacular, or horrid.
Too much time spent with Kovalev maybe....

No way Spezza gets the C. He can't carry a team. He can't lead.
McLean see's what he has in #19. Murray too.
Luongo sucks.

There is no disappearing act.  This is what happens in the playoffs when your team has no talent.  Our depth is non-existent, more so now that Alfie is injured, and Michalek's game does not transition well into the post-season.  Last I checked, their stars aren't killing us, it's their roleplayers like Brian freakin' Boyle.

Excatly! Richards & Gaborik are non existant against a lowly 8th place team.  Go figure!  :smily677:

It's a low scoring series, even Karlsson isn't lighting up the score sheet!

So don't expect your best players to find a way to win? I wouldn't say this team has no talent either. If anything, maybe a bit young. The Sens have shown that they can get scoring from all aspects of the team, except the ones they are paying to score. Sure I get the entire match up thing etc.

At this phase of Alfie's career, it shouldn't be a huge impact if he is out a game.. What I mean is, if you have to depend on your 38 year old captain every night in order to win, you probably won't last long... wups, did I say that?  :icon_hiding2:

Sens HAVE to win tonight.

Its hard to argue that a team that has already exceeded all expectations has NO talent.

well played, sir.

I would also argue that Michalek's game transitions very well into the playoffs. He goes hard to the net on a consistant basis, and battles hard for the puck, goes into the corners, etc. Problem is, he digs the puck out of the corner, gets it to Spezza while he goes to the net, and Spezza makes a perfect pass to a Ranger forward hanging around the high slot waiting for the famous no- look pass.

Do you think the Sens should have spent up to their salary cap to go further this year?

The short answer is no. We are growing just fine and don't need to drop the hammer just yet. Especially with some of the big contracts coming up the next couple years. This team isn't in a position where they need to make a block buster move, yet... But when we do, we have some good chips to play with.

The next 5 years are going to be very interesting.

With that being said, I do wish we had another first line center in the lineup who could put the puck in the net, and didn't turn the puck over.

Did anyone catch Healeys voice over during game 4? The camera was on MacLean while he was shoving a paper in Spezza's face on the bench... Healey sais "I know what MacLean is saying"........ "Here is the scoresheet, you're not on it, it's a 2-2 game.... stop turning the damn puck over!!!!"

Spezza told the media MacLean was showing him that he took 8 shots and missed the net all 8 times.
Healy making up crap as usual.

He might have been saying "I know what I was say if I was Maclean" type of thing.  Even if Healey was wrong, it's what Mac SHOULD have been saying. :)

I think Jason got it right.  I don't think he was trying to say he overheard him or anything.  I liked it when Heatley said that.  I thought it was funny at the time.

Most teams don't have ONE first line centre....you want two???

No.... Just at times wish we could trade ours in....

But if we did want two, with the goaltending talent we have, it could be possible if the right deal showed up.
