MacLean Nominated for the Jack Adams Trophy
« on: April 30, 2012, 11:09:59 AM »
Well-deserved nomination for Paul MacLean in his first year as an NHL head coach!!   :icon_bowdown2:

Hitchcock and Tortorella are his co-nominees.

Hitchcock I can see being the main competition for MacLean.  I don't think that both teams were really expected to do much this season.  Really not sure why Torts would've gotten nominated over Dineen.
There are good coaches and there are bad coaches, the real question is "Do you want this person to be a role model to your kids for the next 6 months".  That's the question you have to ask yourself.

Any of those 3 would be worthy recipients.

I thought Dineen would be in the running too.

Awesome news, He surely deserves the nod.
Tough competition for sure.

Hitchcock took his team to 109 points, a 2010-2011 20th place team to 3rd this year...
While McLean seems to have taken a team in full rebuild and almost made them into a contender in a years time.

Its tight but I think Hitchcock may have an edge...

Torts did well also, but he's an ass and I dont like him.

Torts is an ass but he's done a good job this year.

Moving Fisher and Kelly isn't even close to a full rebuild in my opinion but MacLean has done a great job with a team nobody expected much from.

Hitchcock will probably get it but I'd be fine with any of them.

your right, I meant a team going into rebuild mode, I just meant that it was acknowledged that a rebuild was needed...
And the Sens were picked to finish last

But more than just Fisher and Kelly were moved..
And alot of youth has been introduced this year.

Who else of any significance?  The Elliot and Lee trades were really a wash and not "rebuild" type trades.

A rebuild implys you are getting rid of a significant part of your core for picks or prospects.  The Sens haven't done that.

I must have worded it wrong too because I was just continuing the discussion.  Not trying to piss you off.  Sorry about that.

Agree on the Lee trade, not so much on the Anderson trade.

We gave up a guy who couldn't stop a beachball for a steadying influence in the crease, and a bridge between the Elliott/Leclaire era and the Lehner era.  The Elliott trade was much more than a "wash"

Anderson worked out for the Sens.  I agree.

It was definitely not a rebuild trade though although I keep hearing that.  Elliott is 3 years younger than Anderson.  He also sported a 1.56 GAA last season compared to Anderson's 2.84.  I understand there are other factors involved but "much more than a wash"?

I would argue the rebuild actually started with Dany Heatley, we just didn't know it yet.

Though I think the plan was to go into a full rebuilding mode, it's not really the case anymore.  Mainly because there were more prospects in the system than anticipated and it seems the early crop of draft picks are working out quickly.  Even one we had on the bubble (Rundblad) got flipped for an NHL ready, roster player.

Plus, I think MacLean has shown us that one the team's biggest problems was behind the bench.

Could be argued it was a rebuild trade, as Anderson's purpose was to bridge the gap until Lehner was ready.

As for Elliot's performance this year....ask St. Louis fans how they feel about him now.

Well, St. Louis fans are idiots if they want to blame the goalie when the team only scored 2 goals in 4 games.

His gaa was 2.00.  That's pretty good.

:icon_agree:  Paul MacLean was Brian Murray's best acquisition last year.
