Karlsson must have really wanted to get 'er done and stay in Ottawa.  I am sure that his agent advised him to wait until after the Awards were handed out (at least, IMHO, any agent worth his commissions would).  To be honest, I'm a little surprised with the length but, hey, I'm not complaining!

Good signing.  Term is long, but not stupidly long.  Glad it got done quickly;  I wouldn't want it to loom all summer.  Now that it's done the other pieces should fall into place easy enough.

Ya, I just hope we don't give up the farm to land Rick Nash (IF he even wants to come here).

Not a fan of long albatross contracts, but he's young with a huge upside, so I guess its ok.  Karlsson is only one guy though - who is his partner?  Any word on keeping Kuba cause in my opinion he is the only other Dman that Karlsson plays well with.

Bryan Murray announced last week - or maybe the week before, I've been pretty busy! - that they would not be offering Kuba a contract.  So he's "out" and can test the open market July 1st.  I was kind of hoping that they might be able to retain him 'cause I think that he was a good partner for Karlsson.  Guess they have someone else in mind to suit up with him.

I could see the Sens grooming Cowen to be his partner. A great match, once they both are a couple of years older. For now, I could see whoever the Sens sign as a free agent being paired up with Karlsson.

Flames just gave Dennis Wideman 5 years $25 mil.

That Karlsson deal looks even better now.
