Karlsson wins the Norris

I figured that it would go to either Weber or Chara, but you can't ignore the season the kid had!!!

And I'm sure his agent was grinding his teeth thinking that they could have added a few more dollars had he held off signing his contract for just a few more hours!!   :mrgreen:   But,  hey, I am thrilled for him!  I kind of thought that Weber would be the winner of the Norris.  Nice to see Karlsson's big year rewarded/recognized!   :icon_bowdown2:

I read somewhere that the deal was worth something like $47 Million.  He is young and suddenly very rich.  I'm glad that he didnt hold out for more.  Although he is getting a lot of money it doesnt make him look "greedy".  I think a lot of that is Alfie's influence.

 :icon_agree:   And it's refreshing, in my mind, that he signed on the dotted line to a fair offer considering that most players would have (taken their agent's advice) and waited until AFTER the awards were handed out!  I thought it was kind of endearing that he really didn't know what to say when he got to the stage to accept his award last night.  It was stated in the paper today, in a quote by Alfie, that Karlsson refused to write an acceptance speech since he didn't want to jinx himself!  Good call. ;)

No, he did mention Chara.  Something to the effect of : good competition, good guys, congratulations to Weber and "C"

Glad he got the Norris but I don't think it would have increased his contract.  He's being very well paid and his agent got him a great second contract.  He got a very good deal, and I think he will be worth every cent.

In terms of the contract I am only a little worried about his size because you never know how these things play out over the years. These smallish, fast, puck-moving defensemen are a somewhat new commodity in the NHL. I definitely would have made the deal. Don't get me wrong. But I think there is sort of a gamble based upon one season. I mean, Mike Green.

When it comes to maturity I have no doubts about Karlsson. Isn't he getting married this summer? You could easily argue he's too young to get married, but it goes to show to that he's serious about being an adult. He's from the Aflie school of appreciating how lucky he is.
