Start of the NHL Season.
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:25:12 PM »
I'm picking option 5.  I don't think they will want to tarnish this event by having to cancel it, but I don't think that they will get a deal done before then.

I think egos get in the way too long and there's no season this year. Go Bingo and Go 67s!

I tried to be optimistic by picking #5 but I think you are right MH.

I don't know MH.  With NBC showing the playoffs in every US household last year and the ratings being good, I think it will do to much damage in the US if they lose the entire season.  My feeling is that the US owners could care less if hockey is played until the NFL season is over, but after that they will make a deal to save the season.

Not sure I care any more.  There are five OHL teams within an hours drive of where I live and that's where my hockey dollars will get spent.

December. NBC will toss Bettman off a cliff if they tank 200 mil, and Dec makes sense from a US audience perspective.

Looking forward to seeing some cheap decent hockey out this way ....

Luongo sucks.

I heard a sports pundit (can't remember which....I wasn't listening all that closely as I find myself zoning out of discussions once they start talking about the "looming deadline") make an interesting comment.  He wondered if this whole sh*t show might get settled quicker if the media just stopped talking about it once the deadline Saturday is passed.  Just IGNORE them!

Great idea Rose, since I too have stopped listening to it anyways!

That is my plan come Saturday and a deal isn't in place.  I will always be a Senators fan but I won't act like nothing happened if and when a season has started.  There should be an election for NHL Commissioner because this will be the third lockout under Bettman's reign; something has to change.

Everytime I look at Bettman and that arrogant looking mug of his I wish I was there to smack him.  But, that being said, he's really just doing what the owners want him to do.  Not sure who you think would have votes in a commissioner election.

Personally I will miss NHL hockey this year cause I watch every game either at home or at SBP.  But I am gonna take this as an opportunity to find a new interest cause even when they do come back I plan to be too busy to watch much anymore.

And I will never be a season ticket holder again.  We gave them up last year.  I thought I would miss going to games - I did not.  Now I think I'll miss watching them on tv.  I hope if I do, that the feeling passes quickly.

I no longer care what the dispute is about.  I just know its not about me, so why should I care?

Oh, I know.  It wasn't a serious suggestion. :)

I think of the lockout screwing over the people who depend on hockey a lot (arena workers, staff, resturaunt owners etc) more than I do about the players.  I am sure that despite being very wealthy they may have money issues (fancy cars, houses, habits, etc.) that puts them in a bind with no pay coming in.

Makes me wonder as well if Bettman is getting paid his salary while the lockout is on?

No. Bettman and Fehr have come out and said they are not accepting their salaries during the lockout.

Oh well then, that makes everything okay now. :)

It was hardly a headline. Just a throwaway sentence in an article I read.

What bothers me the most is the time between meetings.  Days and weeks probably before they meet again yet the CAW has hammered out one deal and are working in good faith while negotiating with the other two automakers.

Hey Bettman, take a note here and see how negotiations really work.

Heard on CBC that the Senators have already started layoffs.  Sure didn't take them long.  Also confirmed on the Sun web site...

Totally off topic, but the Citizen wants me to pay to look at articles at their site?  Not happening... :shake:
