Are they really renaming the arena to the Canadian Tire Center or is that just a rumor?

Seems legit, as per Garrioch. What I don't understand from the article I read is that Scotiabank pulled out of the contract despite having signed a 15 years, $20 million agreement. I could only see them being allowed to pull out once the Sens got a new sponsor that paid at least as much, for at least the remaining years left on Scotiabank's contract.

Canadian Tire Centre sounds awful. I could see people call it the CT Centre, which doesn't sound too bad, although working in a hospital, it kinda sounds like a CAT scan. :laugh2:

Metal...lets be honest... EVERYONE will call it the Crappy Tire Centre, and the "Crappy this and that" jokes will be flowing..
But in reality Canadian Tire is a good partner.. They do ALOT for sports in Canada and especially focusing on Youth Programs.

In the article it mentions the money situation...
Quote
while scotiabank had signed a 15-year, $20-million deal with the Senators in 2006, a source said the deal is no longer in place because the bank doesn't serve as a financial backer and Melnyk had the right to find a new partner

Some funny comments regarding the announcement

-Great, fans will walk in, look around for their seats, and never find an 'associate' to direct them....and there will be thousands lined up, only two ticket windows open.
.
-If I can buy tickets with Canadian Tire Money, then I'm good for a few games!!!

Certainly a big deal that was announced.

The only real negative that I can see is the perceived disrespect to Frank Finnegan's family, renaming the bar to Sport Chek.

I saw the presser.  Nice to see Eugene not come off like a loonie for a change.  Seemed totally sane.
