Ontario By-Election
« on: August 02, 2013, 12:46:12 PM »
Seems kinda quiet

Results are in and the expected results prevailed

Questions

1) Should we have expected anything different.
2) Why do Ontarians tolerate such economic waste and spending
3) We persecute screwups and criminal behaviour from corporate entities why not poliitcians.  Is this right?

Just a few thoughts to get a discussion going in the off-season....

I believe the reason is that the PC has no viable platform and a leader that scares the crap out of many people (Mike Harris-Lite) and who has about as much charisma as a tree stump.

The PC needs to wake up and find themselves a good leader or they don't stand a chance in the next elections. Without a good alternative, people will prefer the devil they know.

I certanily agree with all that.  Hudak is a tool beyond compare and it is sad for me to say this but a party that has stolen billions or dollars from us can still gain two seats is amazing.

I think a full election should be called however I think the results will be exactly the same]

You critisize Mike Harris but would you take the provincial econmoic situation over what is today.  Sorry I'll take the latter

As a hospital worker, I am biased against anything Mike Harris. ;)

And as someone in education, Mike Harris was "the devil" when he was power.  The very fact that Hudak constantly reminds everyone that he "learned at the knee of Mike Harris" is something that, frankly, he should distance himself from.  As much as his base likes to hear it, many others cringe whenever they hear it.

The winning of only one byelection since the last provincial election in 2011 - even though it was in Toronto this past week - is nothing to brag about from the Leader of the official opposition at Queen's Park.  As "the premier in waiting" (same title he had previous to the 2011 elections) it's a pretty poor showing overall and should have, by now, shaken the confidence of his party that Hudak is simply not going to get it done, whenever the next provincial election takes place.
