Olympics - Brian Burkes Comments On Bobby Ryan
« on: January 02, 2014, 01:20:42 PM »
So I guess most of you found out that Bobby's not playing for Team USA in the olympics.
I Agree with Ryan that Burkes comment was totally gutless. :icon_angry2:

The day I worry about what Brian Burke thinks is the day I stop watching hockey. :)

Ultimately, it's a good thing for the Sens, only Karlsson looks Olympics-bound. The others should be well rested for the final stretch.

To be fair, Burkie didn't run to the media to chirp Ryan.  It was an ESPN reporter in the room that reported his comments during a discussion of the selection committee.

Just like the HBO 24x7, if you're going to have that kind of access you're going to hear things you otherwise wouldn't.

On one hand, it's pretty classless to bash a player like that. On the other, we keep saying we're tired of clichés being thrown in interviews. This certainly wasn't a cliché.

Still though, it wasn't an interview.  He made the comments during a player assessment meeting so he was just doing his job.

My question is why would they have a reporter sitting in on it.

The real question is why wouldn't Ryan make the team?  His numbers suggest he should.

He's not an intense player but I wouldn't exactly define Kessel or RVR as intense either.

I think it was some openness experiment by USA hockey that they likely regret and will no longer attempt in the future.
