Is he really the problem?

Will Alfie take over?

Murray/Melnyk scapegoating the head coach again. Hey Melnyk, if MacLean had something to work with, maybe this team wouldn't be as awful as it is. Phillips as a top-2 d-man?  :A_laughing_matter:

What a car wreck of a "management" team.

Listened to the press conference with Murray...sounds like MacLean was being a dictator...not sure if that's a bad thing...obviously it was if he got fired... :smily677:

Obviously having 9 dmen is a problem.  Condra and Greening are issues as well.  But this move has Melnyk written all over it.  Melnyk was never sold on MacLean and now he has his man in as the head coach.  This team is a mess.
There are good coaches and there are bad coaches, the real question is "Do you want this person to be a role model to your kids for the next 6 months".  That's the question you have to ask yourself.

I cant believe that they would fire him just after a comeback OT win over the Canucks.  What kind of message is that to the team?
Time passes, things change, the Sens WILL WIN the CUP.
edit -  Hopefully within my lifetime.......

It was all coming down the pipe slowly. They just wanted to wait until after Alfies retirement. I think Melnyk had plans for a while, Heard an interview just a week prior and when they asked him about his thoughts on Sens and Maclean so far this season he said something to the point, well we are not winning any games. So the message was sort of sent there.
Personally I was a bit shocked but not overly, Its not just Macleans fault, but the squeeky wheel gets the grease as they say being that some players was whining and complaining about his demeanour changing so anyways thats my 2 cents.

I highly doubt it had anything to do with Alfie.

I read he's almost been fired before and he had changed a lot.  A good part of the reason Spezza left was Maclean wouldn't listen to him.  He was also making prospects that Murray wanted him to play, healthy scratches.

I don't know what they expect with this roster.  From what I can see they are a bubble team at best and I don't care who's coaching.

Of course Melnyk's boy gets the job.

The moral of this story is, if you suck up long enough, dreams will come true.

So, what are the thoughts on the coaching change now at this point?

Meh. Sure the team went on a tear, but whether or not it's the coach remains to be seen. Just like MacLean was tinkering with his lineup too much, Cameron doesn't seem to make those in-game adjustments when needed.

If he can get something good out of those guys next year then I'll be willing to give him some props.

Sounds reasonable, I am of the same view.  Too many times do we see a coach come in and succeed in that first year only to fail miserably afterwards.  The one thing the team needs right now is stability following the recent loss of Reeds and the impending retirement of Murray.
