Oh, and we always hear about a non-playoff team playing spoiler.  What more of a spoiler would the Senators be if they actually manage to bump out a team from playoff contention that has been in a playoff spot pretty much all season.

Looks fantastic. Push for Washington, set aim on Detroit.

This game is likely the beginning of the end for this team. Nice try, but they're just not good enough. Again tonight, the will to compete just wasn't there against a horrible team. And this is far from the first such game lately. They had their collective asses pulled out of the fire a few times in weeks past, but looks like luck has finally ran out.

And now they are 3 points back of Boston.  Only a miracle will get them back into a playoff spot.  Or a commitment to play hard as a team but that seems to be lacking again.

Time passes, things change, the Sens WILL WIN the CUP.

They are still 3 points behind Boston.  The question is who has the tougher schedule.

Opponents wise, Ottawa seems to.  Though Boston is playing most of their remaining games on the road where Ottawa is at home.

Harsh reality is, if Boston goes 3-2-0 for the last 5 games, Ottawa needs to go 5-1-0 for their last 6.

Those Leafs games are scary as hell. If there's one team that seems to always have Ottawa's number, that's the one.

Quoting myself from a month ago. Holds true yet again today.

After one period, this team is an absolute mess. 21 shots against, playing arguably the second or third worse team in the entire league in a must-win game. Brutal.

The losses to the Leafs certainly does suck.  But lets look at some upside.  Would it be acceptable had the Sens gone 2-1 for the remaining three games?  If so, that is the equivalent of the points they got with the 1-0-2 record for 4 pts.

The more I think about this 3 point game business the more I hate it.  In a season series where a team goes against another for 4 games, a total of 8 points is up for grabs.  Now say the teams split the series at 2-0-2, each getting 6 points, that is a total of 12 points taken by two teams in an 8 point series.  How the hell does that make any sense?  No one single team can get more than 8 points in that series, but the two teams combined nearly doubles it.

Every game should be worth 3 points.  It seems like such a no-brainer to me.

Win in regulation, 3 points.  The rest stays the same.

That, or just get rid of points completely.  Sort teams based on their record.  Say a team with a 39-27-16 (94 pts) record shouldn't be ahead in a standings of a team with 44-33-5 (93 pts).  Use the Loss and OT Loss simply as tie breakers should you have two teams with the same number of wins.

Eg current NHL rules

1 - 44-15-23 (111 pts)
2 - 39-27-16 (94 pts)
3 - 44-33-5 (93 pts)
*What is insane, is 1st in my fictional standings has more points than the Anaheim Ducks currently do with a record of 50-24-7 for 107 pts and would have to win their final game to tie that team in points.  NYR has 111 pts with a record of 52-21-7.

Standings w/o points but based purely on records.

1 - 44-15-23
2 - 44-33-5
3 - 39-27-16
Looks better doesn't it, purely on games won, with Loss and OT Loss being the tie breaker?

Ok so Boston 95 pts (8) and Sens 95 pts (9) can someone explain why Boston is ahead of the Sens in the standings. Sens do have the better stats :crier:

Good News: Rick Nash is getting rested tonight, along with a few other Rangers. Apperantly they called up a few AHL guys. It smells like Rangers wants to help Sens. They ultimately do not want to have to face Boston, I know that for sure. GO SENS GO

The answer was (since the Sens have now passed the B's in points) that in case of a tie in points, the first tiebreaker for standings is games played (less played = higher position), followed by ROW (regulation & overtime wins), of which the B's had more than the Sens.
