Scary shit.

Apparently over 1,00o people have contacted the team.  I wonder though, how many are motivated by the potential that he may "reward" them afterwards?

I hope that those who are viable candidates in general but are unable to directly help Melnyk choose to help somebody else in need.

12 people got "chosen" and are currently under-going final tests in Toronto.

Anyone bother reading the comment section whenever CBC publishes something on Melnyk? Just disgusting.

Do they reference his drinking?  Because I wouldn't be a prick about it but it has crossed my mind.

No, it's usually about Melnyk not deserving a liver because he's rich. And since he's rich, he must have paid for the liver and doomed a poor person to die. If you ever read CBC comments, you know how the majority of posters there wants every rich person to suffer, regardless of the circumstances or the actual facts.

I don't bother with CBC reader comments as most are just a bunch of dickheads who have nothing better to do than instigate others for no good reason.
Time passes, things change, the Sens WILL WIN the CUP.
edit -  Hopefully within my lifetime.......

I hadn't read any comments such as that on social media, but I will say one person in my office expressed those sentiments when we were discussing it.  The other common thread is people suggest that because he has money he was able to use media as an outreach resource...  Seems they all forgot about Helene Campbell and the twins from Toronto that also successfully used media to raise awareness/find donors.

Or the whole ALS thing from last year....

I think its true that he may have jumped the line a bit by being who he is, and if he didn't own the Senators he may have not had as many donors pop up, but he did also provide 20 more people with donors through this whole situation. 20 people who were willing to donate to Melnyk have decided to go forward and help others, and that is amazing.

Actually there was no queue-jumping whatsoever. Since he didn't qualify for a deceased donor, it becomes a "find someone if you can" situation. His advantage is who he is and the resources he has access to in order to make his plea, but no one lost out on a liver because of him.

Exactly MH, anybody in his health situation is free and able to go reach out to social media and even contact media outlets setting out their needs appealing to the public.
