Senators Chris Neil out as wife has baby, expected back for Game 3
OTTAWA (CP) - Rugged Senators forward Chris Neil missed practice Friday to be with his wife Caitlin for the birth of their first child.

The birth was reportedly induced on Thursday but there was no word on whether the baby girl had been delivered as of Friday morning. Neil is expected back with the team for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final on Saturday night.

"His wife's having a baby so I offered him a day off," coach Bryan Murray said. "I'm not sure how he'll be emotionally, but I'm sure it will be very good after it happens."

Patrick Eaves took Neil's spot on the third line with Antoine Vermette and Chris Kelly for practice.

Neil has been without a point in the 12 games since Ottawa's first-round series win over Pittsburgh. The top two lines were intact.

The Senators trail 2-0 in the best-of-seven series but hope home ice for Game 3 will help turn the series around.

"We know we didn't play our best and we still had a chance to win both games, so that makes us feel a lot better," said defenceman Chris Phillips.

Congrats Neiler!!!!!

Hope you guys don't mind

Sens Talk / Kulka On OTR - Surprised nobody posted it
« on: May 27, 2007, 01:58:47 PM »
I watched this the other night and had to laugh.  Albeit, Kulka represented us well, I could not help but feel sorry for the Leaf Homer Rudy Blair who stated on air... The Sens have done nothing in 10years of playoffs, and that is their demise and that He can't stand the Sens as a Leafer he is.  Two words... TOOL  (Ooops that one)

Go to the 2:24 mark if you don't want to watch it all.

Sent to me by a fellow Co-Worker who is a big Sens Fan as well..

Alfredsson set his team, Ottawa on fire

And so, with 10 of 13 games looming on home ice and with his team at a critical juncture of the season, Mr. Alfredsson quietly convened a dinner meeting at an Ottawa restaurant, bringing with him with three veteran teammates: Dany Heatley, Wade Redden and Chris Phillips.

"He told them: 'We all live here and we like it here,' " Senators president Roy Mlakar said. " 'If we want to stay here we've got to be the guys.' "

And then....

Trip down memory lane

- The Senators have bus issues in Boston. They end up on a city subway. A local spots a couple of well-dressed young men with sports bags slung over their shoulder and asks where they're from.

"Ottawa!" the Bostonian replies. "Great city. Lousy hockey team."

"This is the hockey team," he is told.

"A hockey team riding dah subway? No wondah you guys stink!"

General Hockey Discussions / Video Review of goals
« on: April 29, 2007, 11:25:57 PM »
Ok, I don't give a dam about the goal Brylin got, but it does raise an interesting debate about Video Review on goals.

The Video review was brought in to specifically avoid exactly what happened on the Brylin Goal.  Time and time again, teams have goals disallowed or allowed on a case per case bassis, but usually with differing results.

This CBC breakdown of the goal Clearly shows the date/time stamp on the Raw video as expired when the goal went in.  Now these timers..are part of the broadcast signal, but the formatting on the regular home TV trims that part off..or sends a feed with those graphics removed.  Either way,  the information is there and thus the NHL War room should consult it on goals scored when time has run off the clock.  The point being, if the NHL is not going to use all the information available to them to make these important decisions...then perhaps they should drop the reviews alltogether since they still get things wrong and apparently SIC "There is an allowance for human error"

Curious to see what others think.
